  1. “Cultivate the habit of speaking well of others. Dwell upon the good qualities of those with whom you associate, and see as little as possible of their errors and failings. When tempted to complain of what someone has said or done, praise something in that person’s life or character. Cultivate thankfulness. Praise God for His wonderful love in giving Christ to die for us. It never pays to think of our grievances. God calls upon us to think of His mercy and His matchless love, that we may be inspired with praise. “

  3. Day.1 Readings from ‘Man of Peace/ Desire of Ages’

    Chapter. 14 “We have found the Messiah”

    Three things that stood out to me:

    1. Jesus came as a poor and humble person so that He could be our example as well as our Savior. If He appeared as a king, how could He teach humility? How could He preach about serving others with love?

    2. John answered with the words of the prophet Isaiah “I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, ‘Make straight the way of the Lord’”. John 1:23.  —Anciently, when a king journeyed through the less frequented parts of his dominion, a company of men was sent ahead of the royal chariot to level the steep places and to fill up the hollows, that the king might travel in safety and without hindrance. This custom is employed by the prophet to illustrate the work of the gospel. “Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low.” When the Spirit of God, with its marvelous awakening power, touches the soul, it abases human pride. Worldly pleasure and position and power are seen to be worthless. “Imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God” are cast down; every thought is brought into captivity “to the obedience of Christ.” 2Co_10:5. Then humility and self-sacrificing love, so little valued among men, are exalted as alone of worth. This is the work of the gospel, of which John’s message was a part.  {DA 135.1}

    3. By becoming human, Jesus grasped hands with the sons and daughters of Adam. By remaining divine, He holds tightly to the throne of God. Jesus is the connection between God and humanity.

  4. A Progressive Christian Church?

    For all the FEMINISTS out there: The leading founder of the Seventh-day Adventist Church was Ellen G. White, the most prolific female author IN HISTORY!

    CIVIL RIGHTS? Abolitionists such as Sojourner Truth and Frederick Douglass were known to frequent the Seventh-day Adventist Church in part because of our strong and early emphasis on ending slavery in the United

    States.

    HEALTHY LIFESTYLE: Don’t think your raw vegan tacos are a modern product of some hippy culture. Adventists have been at the forefront of promoting a healthy lifestyle since the 1800s, back when doctors still bled people with fevers. Clive McCay Cornell professor of nutrition said this: “In spite of the fact that the works of Mrs. White were written long before the advent of modern scientific nutrition, no better overall guide is available today.”
    Adventists invented corn flakes to encourage Americans to eat more whole grains. In the 1800s and early 1900s, U.S. presidents went to Adventist health facilities since they were considered the best in the land. Adventists have been featured in National Geographic and many books like “The Blue Zone” because they are the longest living people group in the United States.

    FREEDOM OF RELIGION: When American Churches united to force religion on their fellow citizens in 1888, Adventist ministers stood up and fought for freedom of religion. A.T. Jones, an SDA minister, testified before Congress and helped stop the “Blair Bill”.

    BUT none of this is because we are so great. We are just lame, faulty human beings like the rest of you (no offense intended, but its true!). Adventists have only God to credit with their successes, because we have simply followed the counsel in His Word. The mistakes are the only thing we can take credit for. ~Josh F.

  10. “The Sabbath is a commandment many disregard. It’s about loyalty… There are many gods that suggest killing to be wrong but Jesus is the Lord of Sabbath. It is a sign that He is the one that sanctifies us. There is a test of loyalty to come so it makes sense for the Spirit send warning.”
